The Importance of God's Word
Text: 2 Timothy 3:10-17

Introduction Let's start our study by reviewing what we've already learned about the Bible (from Lesson #1):

  1. What are the four basic divisions of the Old Testament?
  2. What is the central theme of the Old Testament?
  3. What are teh four divisions of the New Testament
  4. What is the central theme of the New Testament
  5. What does Isaih 40:8 indicate about God's Word?
  6. What does Isaih 55:11 indicate about God's Word?
  7. In Psalm 1, what is the difference between the one who is stable and bears fruit, and the one who is unstable and blown around by the wind?
  1. Some Observations of 2 Timothy 3:10-15
    1. Summarize Paul's comments re: Timothy in v. 10-11:
    2. What instruction does He give Timothy? (v. 14)
    3. According to v. 15, what can be obtained from the scriptures?
    4. What is the prerequisite to the scripture having this effect?
  2. Some Observations of 2 Timothy 3:16-17
    1. What does it mean that all Scripture is "inspired" or "god-breathed"? (greek: theopneustos)
    2. List the four distinct functions of the Scripture found in v. 16 and their significance:

  3. Personal Application
    1. Knowing God's Word is great but only part of the equation. Complete the following:

    2. On a scale of 1 - 10, where would you rate your knowledge of the scriptures?

    4. Some Suggestions:
      1. Start reading 15 minutes per day. Read in one of the four gospels, Acts, Romans to start.

      3. Partner with another who can honestly provide mutual accountability, then ask, "What has God showed you in His Word today?
